Food & Drink | Is the world ready for Coors Light Iced Tea? We'll find ...

No, we have not Photoshopped the above image. Coors are actually set to release their own iced tea-flavoured beer. Why? We have no idea but we suddenly feel quite thirsty...

Namely simply 'Coors Light Iced T', the drink will feature no caffeine - and therefore no tea - but will have 4% alcohol content and apparently boast a citrus-like iced tea flavour. The unusual new product will launch in Canada first and potentially head to the US and Europe if it receives a favourable response.

Although iced tea-flavoured beer is quite clearly the work of a madman, Coors have explained that they are conscious that they need to make beer more attractive on nights out to those who prefer more exotic choices, such as cocktails.

"Someone else is eating our lunch in the alcohol space," said Molson Coors CEO Peter Swinburn upon the drink's announcement.

This isn't the first time Coors have gone for a radical product launch, however. In the early 1990s the company attempted to sell the US market on Zima, a clear malt beverage that was quickly discontinued but remains a big hit in - you guessed it - Japan. What else would you expect from a country with around 80 of its own unique Kit Kat varietys?
