Iowa gov says Chinese official will visit farm (AP)

DES MOINES, Iowa ? Gov. Terry Branstad says Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping will visit a farm as part of his trip to Iowa this week.

Speaking Monday at his weekly news conference, Branstad announced Xi would tour a corn and soybean farm near Maxwell, about 20 miles northeast of Des Moines.

Xi also will visit Muscatine to see people he met in a 1985 visit to Iowa. He'll also attend a dinner at the Iowa Capitol with about 650 people and participate in an agricultural conference Thursday with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Branstad says he hopes coverage of Xi's visit to Iowa will prompt Chinese citizens to support economic and human rights reforms in their country.

Xi also is meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington and travelling to California.
